Technology meets purpose

We are an IT consultancy on a mission to bring newbie software developers with refugee or migrant backgrounds into the tech industry. Through being paired with expert professionals on real-world projects, we hope to enrich lives and change narratives by guiding our next generation of young developers.

Software development

Each of our expert professionals has over a decade of experience in their respective field of technology.

Make a difference

We take on refugee apprentices and pair them with expert mentors to work on client projects and grow their skills.

Discover talent

Not only do our teams deliver results to our client companies, but we offer our clients a way to discover untapped talent they may end up hiring.

Foster partnerships

Together with our client companies we strive to create a lasting impact on the IT workforce community.

What sets us apart?

Given our mission at Dev•Co•Op to empower refugees and migrants to join the IT workforce, we are dedicated to nurturing the relationships with our most important stakeholders. Only by acting as a dependable steward to our partners and clients, can we achieve our aim of contributing prosperity and equity to the communities we live in.

NGO coding schools

Dev•Co•Op is partnered with Madrid For Refugees, a Spanish NGO that has been running the Refugees Code program since 2018. We select apprentices to join our ranks from the students who complete this 8 month program.

Client companies

Our clients provide the projects for our teams of expert and apprentice. We believe in this win-win situation, where apprentices gain experience through practical work and client companies witness talent in the making – with the prospect of directly hiring those.

EU member states

The European Social Fund Plus is a major instrument by the European Union to promote social inclusion through skills education and access to employment. As part of our long-term plan, Dev•Co•Op will apply for funding via ESF+ schemes offered by the member state of Austria.

How do we operate?

In order for us to provide the best possible service to your organisation, we orient ourselves along 6 guiding principles that are meant to ensure a successful outcome for all parties involved.

1. Identify project scope

Is your organisation planning for a software development project that spans 6 – 12 months of work? And can it be staffed by Dev•Co•Op experts on a full-time or part-time contract working remotely (with occasional on-site presence)?

2. Interview our experts

Get to know our expert developers first with regard to their technical competence, interpersonal skills and ethical outlook. We are confident that we can win you over with the outstanding people here at Dev•Co•Op!

3. Onboard the team

Once our expert and apprentice have cleared your security vetting and a contract is established, can the team be onboarded in accordance with your organisation’s external staffing policies.

4. Exchange feedback continuously

We value and actively seek feedback from our clients throughout our engagements. It is our core belief that we can only improve by listening to criticism and taking in new information.

5. Round off with retrospective

A project retrospective upon completion allows us to gather performance evaluations from multiple sources on the client side. This serves as an imperative input into prospective follow-up projects to be awarded to Dev•Co•Op.

6. Hire the apprentice

In case the apprentice has impressed you with their work, a suitable internal position opens up and it is agreeable to all parties, can the apprentice be promoted to become permanent staff within your organisation.

Backend web development

Our expertise spans the Java technology stack with a particular focus on the Spring framework and containerised deployment.

Whether it is REST, SOAP, CoAP, GraphQL or any other web service interface that our clients require, our software engineers will build backends based on modern, reliable and secure standards. We adapt to our clients’ architecture landscapes, from integrating with complex business software to high-performance message brokers or distributed streaming platforms. Our teams are not only experienced with industry-leading database systems such as PostgreSQL and MongoDB, but also specialised solutions such as Neo4J.

Frontend web development

We are advocates of Angular not only for single-page applications but also for cross-platform mobile app development via the Ionic framework.

Some of our senior engineers started over a decade ago using AngularJS and have followed its evolution, gaining proficiency along the way in TypeScript, reactive programming and visualization using the D3.js library. We pride ourselves in remaining up-to-date with Angular’s latest released features and being active members of local frontend development meetup groups.
